PROJECT GEOLOGIST
Overview
Sam Angel is a Project Geologist at The Riley Group, Inc. (RGI). Sam has six years of experience providing geotechnical, hydrogeologic, and environmental consulting services in the Pacific Northwest. He is a Licensed Geologist (LG) and actively utilizes his license to complete hydrogeologic and geotechnical investigations.
In 2015, Sam received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences from Pacific Lutheran University. Sam continued his education at the University of Washington and achieved a master’s degree in applied geosciences degree in 2020. His graduate program focused on slope stability and drafting landslide inventory and shallow/deep landslide susceptibility models for the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe.
Since joining RGI in 2022, Sam obtained his Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification as well as his Licensed Geologist (LG) designations. He is now preparing for additional specialty licensure. Sam has been a reliable field staff member and has effectively managed a multitude of projects throughout the Puget Sound area. He has developed an aptitude for geotechnical engineering report preparation and assists the hydrogeological department by completing the necessary field tasks.
Technical Experience
Sam’s professional construction observation experience includes mechanically stabilized earth walls, bearing soil assessments, structural fill/backfill testing, utilities installations, stormwater infiltration/detention facilities, ground improvement installations, shoring, cement treating, and lab testing. Additionally, Sam is a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control LEAD and assists clients in best management practices, required inspections, and reporting to the Washington Department of Ecology.
Over the past few years, Sam has built his technical skillset to include more geotechnical exploration and hydrogeologic tasks. Sam excels at soil sampling, writing geotechnical engineering reports, and identifying the best design practices for our clients to utilize. Sam’s hydrogeologic work includes infiltration testing, well installation, and groundwater monitoring. He is a proficient project manager that manages projects from inception, oversees the design and construction phases, and closes out projects with final reporting.
